How To Increase Your Ranking In Google For Specific Keywords

How Do I Make My Site To Show Up On Google For ??

This is inevitably the first question I get asked after someone gets their first website up.  Increasing your search engine rankings is called search engine optimization or SEO for short.  There are many factors that decide whether or not your site is going to do well in search, or better yet show up on the first page, or best be the #1 listing for your chosen keyword.  These value of different factors changes every time a search engine changes its algorithm, which happens to be quite often.  Also no one truly knows what factors carry what amount of weight as this information is a proprietary secret.  There is no way of making you site do well in the search engine results.  The best thing you can do is influence the search engines to rank your site highly for the keywords you desire.

First of all you want to make the search engines happy by having a nice orderly site, with original content.

The Search Engines Idea Of Being Orderly

As you may of noticed I have a big headline “How Do I Make My Site Show Up On Google” Then below that there is a smaller headline “The Search Engines Idea Of Being Orderly”.  The first heading uses H1 tags, the second H2 tags.  If you have more sub headings you can keep on going all the way up to H6.  Ideally you want your keywords in your header tags.

You also want your keywords in your title, and your description meta tags.  There are other meta tags but they are not very important, but you can also place keywords in them as well.  The title tag is what shows up in Google, or other search engine results, as a blue underlined text link.  Below this blue text link is a description of the site, or webpage, and yes, you guessed it this is the content that is in your description meta tag.

Another way of keeping your site nice and organized for the search engines is to have a site map.  You can actually have a page on your site that shows the different pages of your website; this is also great for human visitors, who can look at the pages you have so they can find the information they are looking for faster.  The kind of site map that the search engines really like is an XML sitemap.  This is a file you create, and send the the search engines.  On WordPress it is easy, as it is all done for you.  It is a good idea to read what Google has to say on the subject of SEO.  Check out the Google SEO Guide.

On Page Search Engine Factors

Using meta tags, and even the site map can all be considered on page factors.  The most important on page factor is your content.  If you want to rate for a specific keyword then you need to include that keyword in your content.  It is best to have a keyword density of 1-5%, which means repeat your keyword 1-5 times for every 100 words your right.  Having your keyword repeated more often is not necessarily better; in this case, less is more.  The power of content should never be underestimated.  If you really, really want to do well for the keyword you desire keep on publishing content with that keyword on your website or blog.  Also it is important to remember that websites do not rate for keywords, web pages do; with that in mind optimize each page of your site for a specific keyword.

It is also recommended to link to other pages in your site using contextual linking.  All that is is linking your keyword to a page on your site that is related to that keyword.  The HTML code for creating a text link is <a href=”http://www.createawebsite.cc”>Create a website</a>, but if you are using WordPress as I recommend then it is as simple as highlighting your text, clicking on the link button, and they typing in the URL you wish to link to.  It is also a good idea to have a navigation bar on the site with keyword links to specific pages; the search engines like this and so do your visitors.

Off Page Search Engine Factors

Off page factors are SEO methods that do not take place on your website.  Creating contextual back-links on other sites that point to various pages in your website is the goal with off page SEO.  The best way to achieve this is by creating awesome content so that other people want to share it on their website.  Creating quality content should always be your goal.  There are man unethical people, and methods that add no value to the internet at all; the only purpose is of this content is to create back links to a website.  Often the content is stolen, then the words are changed using an article spinner, and the end result is content that is garbage, and often it makes no sense at all.  This kind of content is spam, and it is useless – just don’t do it.  There are many ways to ethically create backlinks that point to your website; Here are the most common:

Six Ways To Create Backlinks
  1. Forums – You can join a forum that is related to your niche and link to your site in your profile and in your signature link.  Your signature link show up every time you make a post.
  2. Blog Comments – When you leave a comment on a blog you can include a link to your site.
  3. Article Directories – You can write articles and then submit them to article directories.  You can include a couple of links in the about the author section.  You give permission for your articles to be re-used on other sites, but they have to include your links.
  4. Press Releases – A press release is news-worthy information about your business or website.  If your press release gets picked up by news sites then your site will end up with potentially thousands of back links.
  5. Social Media Sites – There are lots of sites where you can create web pages that link to your site.  Squidoo, and Hubpages are two prime examples. You can also use sites like Facebook, and Twitter.  The key is being social so you build a network or readers who enjoy your content.
  6. Blog Sites – Publishing your content on sites like Googles Blogger.com.  These kind of sites are often similar to social media sites in that you will do better if you socialize and comment on other peoples blogs.

The problem with creating backlinks is that unless you automate the task, it takes forever.  Back link creation is not a job you want to do by hand.  This is why you want to make every back link count by adding value.  If your article provides helpful information, people will want to use it.  If your forum posts help people out, then they will be more interested in your signature links.  If you go out there and randomly post comments on blogs that have nothing to do with your site you are not going to be very successful.  Make your comments count, other-wise they will never get approved.  The same goes for all of your content.  Create value added content always.
